Build a green food manufactury in the desert.
Cultissima is starting a project to build a complete factory for lettuce and herbs in the desert. The first location is the UAE. The technique is based on LED lighting with hydroponics. Our mission is to build a fully self supporting conglomerate for fresh food production in the desert from the Arabian Peninsula.
Big issues in the region are food and water. Many food is imported from region and worldwide by airfreight.
The Sheik asked to invest in more food production in the region and work on water saving projects. With hydroponics we save 39 liter water a head and can manufacture in the region.
Local production save transport cost and also the milieu..
We plan for 2015 to build a high-tech food factory. The first factory is on the border Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Plans for other Gulf countries are under development.
The factory covers an area of 5500 m2 and is divided into several compartments. A multilayer cultivation system is responsible for optimum efficiency.
The first compartment is a seed robot street. The next compartment is the germ department. Fully computer controlled for optimum humidity and temperature. After five days in germ department will plant cuttings to the growing compartment. Besides temprature and humidity are also computer controlled LED lights for optimum growth results.
After the harvest, there is a logistics department for packing and shipping.
The growth of lettuce from sowing to harvest now amounts to a total of 35 days. This can be grown year round.
Diversity: Besides lettuce can also other vegetables are grown as examples chicory, tomatoes, cucumber, zucchini and more.
The total investment for the plant start 6 million US dollars.
With an ROI of 3 years, this is very attractive.
We like to get in touch with participation parties and financiers.
This knowledge and technology is operational for several years in the Netherlands. Daily producing of first quality lettuce heads for the big retailers located in the Netherlands and Germany.
Cultissima did investigate the feasibility for the Arabic region. After meetings with machine builders, food sector UAE, governmental advisors GCC and investors did we give a go.
The trips from September and November are very successful. We are looking for a spread of investors from Europe and the Arabic World.
